After more than five years in Early Access, Valheim has officially launched its 1.0 update today, September 9th, 2026 — and it brings the Deep North, the game’s tenth and final biome, along with a mountain of new content to explore. What’s New in Valheim 1.0

The Deep North biome. A vast, frozen region at the northernmost edge of the map, packed with new enemies, dungeons, and environments to discover. Ice is slippery underfoot, and deep snowdrifts will need to be cleared with a craftable shovel before you can settle down and build.

New gear to craft. Expect Nord axes, greatswords, a hard-hitting Frostfire crossbow, and a grappling hook for getting around the Deep North’s trickier terrain.

A refreshed combat and progression system, along with new food recipes, resources, and a full achievement system that starts tracking your stats from the moment you install 1.0.

Crossplay across every platform. Valheim 1.0 launches on PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and — for the first time — PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with full crossplay support between them all.

Free for existing owners. If you already own Valheim, the 1.0 update is yours automatically — no need to buy the game again. Iron Gate has also confirmed that older save files will carry over, though they recommend starting fresh to get the most out of the Deep North.
